Tokyo

Tokyo has got its fair share of importance as it is the de facto capital of Japan. It is the seat of Japanese government and the Imperial palace and also the home of the Japanese Imperial Family of Japan. This is a major global city and mega city and has the largest metropolitan gross domestic product in the world for a city.

There are various places of tourist interest in Tokyo. These include four national parks within Tokyo which are Chichibu Tama Kai National Park, Meiji no Mori Takao Quasi-National Park, Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, and Ogasawara National Park. Older buildings are scarce in Tokyo due to the dual crises that it has faced first in the 1923 Great Kanto earthquake and later after extensive firebombing in World War II. So the landscaping of Tokyo is one of modern architecture.

There are parks and gardens everywhere and within an hour of the city centre, there are beaches and a green hinterland. Volcanic islands with white sandy shores are present slightly off the city centre. There are deep mountains for adventure sports like trekking, camping and fishing. Tokyo National Museum, the National Museum of Western Art; and the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art depict the art and culture of the city. Also, the Imperial palace is worth a visit. The East Gardens are usually accessible to tourists when half of the palace is off-limits for public. Only on the emperor's birthday or New Year, the inner place opens up for public viewing.
